Fritz Hansen Kaiser Idell

The Fritz Hansen Kaiser Idell series is a family of Bauhaus-style lamps designed by Christian Dell, with a recognisable shade and a ball joint patented in 1930. It includes table lamps, floor lamps, pendants and wall lamps. The lamps come in black, matt black, white and a few deeper colours.

Fritz Hansen Kaiser Idell: a Bauhaus lamp family

Christian Dell (1893-1974) designed the first Kaiser Idell lamps in 1926, and the first models were launched in 1936. The series is built around the ball joint patented in 1930 and the characteristic shade, which carries the engraving ORIGINAL KAISER-idell. The lamps are made in steel and brass, the shades are hand-lacquered in glossy or matt paint, and the chrome-plated parts are hand-polished brass.

Models and colours

The range includes table and floor lamps of model 6556, the 6631 Luxus table lamp, the 6631 pendant, the 6580 floor lamp and the wall lamps 6559-W and 6718. Most come in black, matt black and white, and some in Olive Green, Venetian Red or Dark Green, with a matt black and brass version in a limited edition.

Where Kaiser Idell fits

Use the table lamps on a desk, the floor lamps by a chair and the wall lights in a hallway. All belong to the wider Fritz Hansen range.
