Vitra Floor lamps

Vitra floor lamps are the Akari lamps of Isamu Noguchi: floor models in rice paper and bamboo, plus lamps that work as both table and floor lamps. They give a warm, soft light for the bedroom, the living room and the office. Several models also work as table lamps.

Vitra floor lamps in the Akari series

The Akari series was designed by the Japanese-American Isamu Noguchi. It consists of lamps in rice paper, made of bamboo and washi paper, in many sizes. The light paper contributes to a warm, soft light and a feeling of lightness, even in large models. The floor lamps, such as 3A, 7A, 9A, 10A and 14A, are suited to cosy lighting in the bedroom, the living room and the office.

Models and sizes

Larger floor lamps include BB3-33S, BB3-55DD and the UF4 models in white. The Akari 1A, 1AD, 1AG, 1AY, 1N and 3X lamps are smaller and can be used both as floor and table lamps. This makes it easy to move one lamp between a bookcase, a window corner and a desk.

Styling

Place a floor lamp next to a sofa, an armchair or a bed. Akari paper has a texture that works well with oak and walnut, and with sculptural furniture from Vitra such as the Noguchi table. Pair floor lamps with Akari pendants for a consistent look across the room. Because the paper is light, even the tallest models feel airy next to heavier furniture. Their paper surface also hides the bulb, so the light stays even.
