GUBI Démon

The GUBI Démon series is a shelf system designed by Mathieu Matégot in 1954. Here the shelves are shown Démon shelves in oak, black ash and American walnut, in two lengths and with one to five shelves, as a single wall shelf or a larger combination for a wall.

GUBI Démon: a shelf system by Matégot

Démon was designed by Mathieu Matégot in 1954 and was originally called Biblio-Démon on his drawings. It is a flexible concept, since the shelf is available in several lengths, materials and combinations of shelves.

Lengths, shelves and wood

The lengths are L95 and L155 cm, and each can have 1, 3, 4 or 5 shelves. The wood is oak, black ash or American walnut. A single shelf can hang in a hallway, while a combination of several makes a bookcase for a living room.

Placing Démon

The shelf suits both a single piece and a group. One shelf can hold a few books by the entrance, while the five-shelf version in L155 cm gives a full wall of storage. Black ash gives a dark, graphic look, while oak and American walnut feel warmer and lighter in tone. The same wood can be repeated in tables and chairs in the room.
