Outdoor Lighting Guide

Outdoor lighting helps create a welcoming first impression while improving visibility and comfort around your home. The right lighting can highlight your entrance, guide guests safely and add atmosphere to outdoor spaces.

When choosing outdoor lamps, it is important to consider both design and durability.

Where to Use Outdoor Lighting

Entrance & Front Door

Wall lamps by the entrance create a warm welcome and make it easier to find keys, locks and doorbells after dark.

Driveways & Pathways

Use lighting to guide the way and improve safety around walkways, stairs and entrances.

Terraces & Gardens

Outdoor lighting can extend the feeling of your home into exterior spaces and create a relaxed atmosphere in the evening.

Choosing the Right IP Rating

Outdoor lamps are exposed to rain, dust and changing weather, so choosing the correct IP rating is important.

We generally recommend:

IP44

Suitable for covered outdoor areas or walls with some shelter.

IP55–IP65

Recommended for exposed areas where the lamp may be affected by rain, wind and dirt.

The more exposed the placement, the higher level of protection we recommend.

Placement Tips

To achieve the best result:

  • Use wall lamps near doors and entrances

  • Place pathway lighting low for guidance

  • Combine practical lighting with softer ambient light

  • Avoid glare by choosing diffused or downward-facing light

Our Recommendation: Choose outdoor lighting that combines function, atmosphere and long-lasting durability. For most homes, IP44 or higher is a safe and reliable choice.

As outdoor lighting is often considered a fixed electrical installation, we recommend using a qualified electrician for installation or replacement.
