Vitra table lamps: Akari
The Akari table lamps by Isamu Noguchi are made of bamboo and washi paper. The white, durable paper creates a gentle, even spread of light that is pleasantly dimmed, and the simple shape adapts to many interiors. Models include 20N, 24N, 3AD, 9AD and YA2.
Lampe de Bureau
The Lampe de Bureau was designed by the French designer Jean Prouvé in 1930. This industrial table lamp is a companion for the desk, giving a downward light that does not dazzle. It comes in fresh colours: Bleu Marcoule, Deep Black, Japanese Red and White Colombe, which brings a touch of colour into an office.
Choosing a lamp
Use an Akari lamp where a soft glow is wanted, on a sideboard or by a bed, and the Lampe de Bureau where light is needed for work. The two designs complement each other in one room. For the same designers on the wall or on the ceiling, see Vitra pendants and chandeliers and the rest of Vitra. Place the lamps at different heights on a console for a layered light in the evening. The Akari lamps are made for a quiet evening, while the Prouvé lamp is practical for study and reading.
