Vitra Flock

The Vitra Flock series is George Nelson's Flock of Butterflies clock, reissued by the Vitra Design Museum. The page shows the clock in aluminium, a sculptural piece from the 1950s that follows the original design from 1958. It is a graphic clock for a wall in a hallway or a living room.

Vitra Flock: Flock of Butterflies

Flock of Butterflies belongs to George Nelson's wall clocks from the 1950s, which are icons of the "joie de vivre" style of that decade. Their varied materials and sculptural shapes still make a refreshing alternative to more traditional designs. The aluminium gives the clock a light, metallic look, and the shape plays with the idea of a flock of butterflies in motion, which gives the wall a small piece of movement.

A new edition

The Vitra Design Museum has produced a new edition of these collector's items that follows the original design from 1958 faithfully. This version is in aluminium.

From the Nelson collection

Between 1948 and 1960, Nelson and his staff designed more than 150 clocks for Howard Miller, with freely played shapes and no numbers on the dial. Find other clocks and design pieces from Vitra under Vitra decorative accessories.
